Louis Roque: when fruit meets time

In Souillac, in the Lot region, Maison Louis Roque has been upholding a tradition of expertise dedicated to fruit brandies since 1905. Two of its creations particularly illustrate this encounter between the orchard, artisanal craft, and time: La Vieille Prune Réserve Originale and the Poire Prisonnière.

La Vieille Prune de Souillac, the signature of the House

La Vieille Prune has become the iconic creation of Louis Roque. Its recipe is based on a blend of distillates from different varieties of plums, notably the mirabelle, the quetsche, and the prune royale.

Each variety contributes its own character before the blend continues its evolution in contact with wood. Aging in oak barrels allows the vivacity of the fruit to meet with greater roundness and complexity.

The Réserve Originale unveils an amber hue with old gold reflections. Its profile combines ripe and stewed fruit with spicy nuances, with hints of cinnamon, vanilla, and licorice.

It can be enjoyed slowly at the end of a meal or accompanied by a dessert such as crème brûlée, tarte Tatin, or vanilla ice cream.

La Poire Prisonnière, the fruit at the heart of the bottle

With its whole fruit visible inside the carafe, the Poire Prisonnière immediately catches the eye.

The bottle thus becomes much more than a container: it directly evokes the orchard and places the pear at the center of the presentation. Its unique aesthetic also makes it a great gift idea for enthusiasts of French spirits and products with character.

It should be tasted in moderation, at the end of a meal, to allow the fruity character of the brandy to fully express itself.

Two expressions of the same expertise

La Vieille Prune and the Poire Prisonnière offer two different interpretations of fruit.

The former tells the story of the art of blending, aging in oak barrels, and patience. The latter is distinguished by the spectacular presence of the whole pear in the bottle.

They nonetheless share the same philosophy: respecting the raw material and preserving the link between the fruit, its origin, and the work of the House.
